Pleasure Island is an appropriate name for this vacation paradise. One of the most family friendly beach towns in the US, Carolina Beach offers a ton of family fun activities, starting with the Annual Boardwalk Amusement Park.
The Carolina Beach Boardwalk has been ranked one of the top 10 boardwalks in the US, a stroll on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk features classic seaside family fun with shops, restaurants and nightlife entertainment that accompany stunning views of the white sandy beaches and the surf of the Atlantic Ocean. Along the Boardwalk that currently stretches from the brand new Hampton Inn & Suites Hotel down to the Marriott Hotel & Resort, you’ll find a wide, elevated boardwalk, with lush landscaping, picnic tables, bench swings, outdoor showers, restrooms and access to arcades, shopping, food and refreshments. Summer treats include snow cones, ice cream cones, sodas, funnel cake and, of course, the world famous, Britts Donuts.
Weekly family events include free concerts and fireworks. Annual off-season events that include Boardwalk activities are Christmas-by-the-Sea and the Island of Lights Festival. One of the last remaining beach boardwalks on the East Coast, you can get your fill of famous homemade donuts, ice cream, and fudge, play in the arcade, see the ocean from the Ferris wheel, or dance the night away to live music.
Like Coney Island, Carolina Beach has its own Summer Amusement Park, complete with rides for kids of all ages. Many rides can be appropriate for kids, teens and adults. Included are the roller coaster, ferris wheel, tilt-a-whirl, merry -go-round, giant slide and lots of other rides, amusements and games. Tickets for all rides can be purchased, with each ride setting their own cost (number of tickets required).
It’s tradition for locals and visitors alike to bring the whole family out on Thursday nights during the summer for a free music concert that culminates with a giant fireworks display over the Atlantic Ocean. Most people gather along the beach and the Boardwalk to witness the spectacular fireworks that offer a mini sample of the awesome Fourth of July Fireworks held in Carolina Beach.
Ever Tuesday night during the summer, starting at 6:30 pm, features games for kids, a bouncy house, raffles, and live entertainment from 6:30 pm until 8:30pm. Free for children and adults.
Movies at the Lake in Carolina Beach, NC, is a Sunday Family Night tradition. Recent child-friendly films, such as Cinderella and Home, are shown on the big screen just as the sun is setting on beautiful Carolina Beach Lake Park. Films begin at dusk, and are subject to change and weather conditions. Feel free to bring a cooler, picnic dinner and, for sure, lawn chairs.
The Boogie in the Park Concerts are free family 0riented concerts held, usually on Sunday Evening at Ocean Front Park in Kure Beach, NC. Band performances range from country to rock to big band and pop.
From June through August, free summer concerts are held at the Ft. Fisher Air Force Recreation Area. This year’s concerts will include country bands, pop, rock, blues and even a Beatles tribute.
The Princess and her fairytale friends from Fairytales and Dreams by the Sea hold free reading sessions, crafts and games for kids at Kure Beach’s Ocean Front Park. There are f un activities for boys and girls. Bring the kids and the camera for happy beach time memories for the whole family.
